Hematological and Morphological Changes in the Peripheral Blood Smear of Patients with COVID-19

Background: The novel coronavirus is responsible for a widespread pandemic, causing multiple clinical manifestations. Peripheral blood films have shown changes in white cell (WBC) morphology and counts, as well platelet abnormalities. Atypical reactive lymphocytes may also be observed the film, which suggests mild leukoerythroblastosis. Objectives: present study aimed to evaluate hematological morphological peripheral smear of patients with COVID-19. Methods: This was conducted on 175 diagnosed COVID‐19 infection. Blood samples were collected from examined estimation parameters, differential count, presence atypical lymphocytes. Results: mean age 53.73 years, males constituted 52.6% patients. majority had normal hemoglobin levels. WBC count 60.6% patients, while 74.3% thrombocytopenia detected 23.4%. In addition, indicated that 56.6% neutrophils, lymphopenia 28 77.7% low eosinophil count. smears showed deeply basophilic cytoplasm 21.14% Conclusions: film examination show abnormal findings COVID-19 Neutrophilia are frequently well. Low highly common. Although platelets changes, they or reduced most cases.
